History

The education of students for technical and commercial professions in our city began in 1883 with the establishment of a vocational school. In the first decade of the 20th century the school further developed and some new professions were introduced. After the end of World War II there was a constant need for a large number of experts with great professional knowledge and broad education. As a result, on 4 November, 1945 the Technical School was founded in Subotica.

Back in the year 1981 from the construction and wood processing professions, a special organisation was formed under the name November 18 Construction and Wood Processing Intermediate Level Educational Organisation. From 1 September, 1983, after the reorganisation of the secondary schools network and the integration of the first and second stages of secondary education into a unified school, our school GSŠ “18 Novembar” moved to the premises of the Gymnasium (former Grammar School) at 1 Petefi Šandor Street. At that time the school educated students in the construction and wood processing profession and since 1985 in graphic arts – typography field as well. In January, 1992 the school moved to its current building at 38 Maksim Gorki Street, Subotica.

On 26 April, 2002 by the decision of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, our school has been renamed Polytechnic School.

By today, more than 8,000 students have successfully completed their studies and training in our vocational school in three and four-year course studies, in Serbian and Hungarian languages and recently in Croatian as well, for the needs of the economy of the North-Bačka region and much wider.

We educate and professionally train our regular students, many part-time students and other people in frame of adult education in four professional fields, namely:

  • Surveying and Construction (Geodesy and Building)
  • Forestry and Wood Processing
  • Graphic Arts – Typography
  • Culture, Art and Public information

with a wide range of educational profiles in all of these professional fields.

Polytechnic School Subotica continually changes and grows. We constantly seek new ideas to develop and implement better and advanced techniques. With the help of our students and colleagues, donations made by our friends, supporters and social partners, we manage to improve the level and quality of educational standards day by day.
